Medigap Plan A
What is Medigap Plan A and what does it cover?
This Medicare Supplement plan is provided by Medicare-approved private insurance companies. It is the most basic Medigap plan covering 20% of all outpatient medical expenses, making it perfect for people who do not wish to pay high premiums for services they do may not use.
It covers the following:
- Medicare Part A hospital and coinsurance expenses for up to an additional 365 days after finishing your Medicare benefits.
- Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance and copayments.
- Medicare Part B copayments or coinsurances
- First 3 pints of blood during surgeries and other medical procedures
Medigap plan A, however, does not offer the following benefits:
- Skilled nursing healthcare facility coinsurance
- Original Medicare deductibles
- Medicare Part B excess costs
- Foreign travel healthcare emergencies
Medigap Plan A or Medicare Advantage – which plan suits me best?
While Medigap Plan A is perfect for people over 65 who do not wish to spend too much on premiums for benefits they may not use, it may come with heftier costs for those under retirement age living with disabilities. This is because Medicare costs are higher for beneficiaries living with disabilities.
As a result, Medical Advantage plans are more affordable and convenient if you are under 65 years of age as their rates remain constant regardless of age, condition, or disability.
At Your Life Agency, we help you find Medicare insurance plans that give you the most benefits at the lowest premiums.
